First, CBS took the Twitter account @ShitMyDadSays and turned into the series ‘$#*! My Dad Says’, and now ABC has announced they are developing a series based on the website and book, ‘Awkward Family Photos.’
ABC has partnered with Sony Pictures to develop a comedy based on the book version, but how it exactly they plan to turn it into a TV series is still unclear.
The original ‘Family Photos’ website was created by Mike Bender and Doug Chernack who intended to provide “a friendly place where everyone could come together and share their uncomfortable family moments,” this ultimately resulted in endless submissions of awkward, embarrassing and funny family photos.
In addition to ‘Sh*t My Dad Says’, which is being panned by critics and only getting OK ratings, CBS has signed a TV development deal with a second Twitter feed, @Shh … Don’t Tell Steve.
AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com started out a year ago with the creators posting their own awkward childhood photos, and it quickly took off. It now receives millions of photo submissions from all over the world.
No premiere date has been announced for the series yet, but Moses Port and David Guarascio (‘Just Shoot Me’) are attached to the project with Bender and Chernack as executive producers, along with Joe and Anthony Russo (‘You, Me and Dupree’).
