Breaking News: TLC Sues Jon Gosselin For Breach of Contract

jonEarlier today, TLC filed a lawsuit against Jon Gosselin accusing him of breach of contract.

The suit, filed in Maryland, claims that the Jon and Kate Plus Eight star violated his contract by making paid public appearances and by disclosing private information about the show.

“The network has been trying privately and patiently for months to get Jon to honor the contract he signed and to comply with his obligations relating to public appearances and statements,” TLC said in a statement. “Those efforts have been unsuccessful.”

In the lawsuit, TLC is asking that Jon return any money made form other TV appearances and that he abide by the terms of his contract.

But, according to Gosselin’s lawyer, he hasn’t been formally served anything. “Apparently, TLC has elected to initially litigate this case in the Court of Public Opinion, rather than the Circuit Court for Montgomery County Maryland because neither Jon nor I have been served with legal pleadings or informed by TLC of the instant litigation,” Mark Heller, Gosselin’s attorney, said in a statement. “Remarkably, instead, I read the alleged Complaint on the internet, since it would appear that Discovery and TLC chose to pander and publicize their weak, feeble and baseless claim to the media rather than providing the Defendant with appropriate notice through the traditional judicial process. Discovery and TLC has treated Jon Gosselin like a dog by attempting to keep him on a leash and muzzle him and deny the father of eight the opportunity to earn a livelihood to support his family.”

Heller added that Gosselin will “vigorously defend against this baseless action” by proving that TLC exploited the family during financial hardships.

After TLC announced that Jon and Kate Plus Eight would be renamed Kate Plus Eight and would feature less of Jon, he requested the network stop filming his children which halted production on the show.

I know I speak for nearly all who watched Kate and Jon plus 8 to the intense depth I did and are not responding to tabloids AFTER the fact, commenting on what they don’t really know, and so sadly, YOU, TLC, my beloved favorite station, to try to salvage what you might make after the fake person of the parents – Kate – the one you YOURSELVES seemed to respond to in various negative ways to her meanness to her husband. Apparently, your motive was, once you saw she just “might” play into the hollywood scene and upstage your station, thereby gaining notoriety and income for you, set out WITH her to visciosly destroy her husband who, you KNOW, without there would never have been a show – at any time had he decided enough of her meanness to him. NOW, that he has made it clear throughout the years – IF anyone listened, and certainly YOU heard it, he made it clear it was never his decision to have the broadcast, that he had no say in the matter, nor in the one to have just “one” more child (his exact word – “caved,”). You did not then nor will you now ever cause anyone who really watched this program create a love for a fake, evil, unbalanced woman and hatred for a man who has a kind heart, craved love, gave love liberally, truly loves his children – they are NOT trophy children to him as to their mom. No, you can’t glean any more money from his tolerant nature and willingness to be abused, and I’m appalled at your treatment of him. It hurts me. It hurts me for the station. I fear for those on it now. YOU owe Jon an apology and YOU as the network you pose to be should have encouraged them long ago to get counselling. ANYONE could see that Kate teeters on mental imbalance – even there, I could have respected you more had you encouraged her to get help.
