According to THR, Fox and Conan O’Brien have resumed talks about a potential late-night talk show.
At the same time, O’Brien has been approached to participate in Fox’s “Idol Gives Back” which will air April 21.
Sources say that the offer is a coincidence and that the “Idol” offer is not related to the possibility of a late-night talk show. They also stressed that if a a deal is met, it will not be finalized before April 21. The invitation to O’Brien didn’t even come from Fox, but from “American Idol” producer 19 Entertainment, which is reaching out to several celebrities for the charity special.
The “Idol Gives Back” invitation also had to be taken to NBC to determine whether if the network would allow it under its settlement with the talk show host. NBC said no to the appearance since O’Brien’s contract doesn’t allow any TV appearances until May 1.
Though talks continue with Fox, O’Brien is still exploring his options including a syndicated or cable show.
