Sopranos alum Drea de Matteo will be joining the cast of Desperate Housewives this fall. Her character will also be bringing a husband and an adult son to Wisteria Lane with her.
An ABC rep confirms that de Matteo has been cast as a series regular to offset the loss of Nicollette Sheridan’s Edie, who died at the end of season five. Her character will be from the Bronx (no surprise there) and will be married with a 19-year-old son.
Those who have peeked at the script confirm that her character is a fish out of water in the white picket fenced neighborhood of Wisteria Lane. It also looks like her son (who has yet to be cast) will take a liking to one of the other ladies. He must take after his father who is described as a flirt in the script.
De Matteo has plenty to celebrate in her off screen life as well. She recently became engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Shooter Jennings. The couple have a 2 year old daughter, Alabama Gypsyrose.
Desperate Housewives’ Season 6 premieres Sept. 27.
