There are many options when it comes to renting or watching DVD movies online. I remember when I first got a DVD player back around 2001, you were really limited to Blockbuster or the traditional movie stores. However now there are a ton of services that let you rent DVDs online without even having to leave the comfort of your own home.
The most popular solution for renting and watching DVD’s online is Netflix. I’ve covered Netflix on here many times before and am personally an active subscriber. Netflix is great because it allows you to select what DVD’s you want to see right from your computer. You don’t even need to leave your living room. You can then either choose to rent the DVD and have it mailed to you (it arrives in about one business day), or you can choose to watch the DVD online through the Netflix website. This is a great feature. I usually work really late hours, and I’ll often log on to the Netflix website and watch a movie while I work. It keeps me up, it’s entertaining and best of all its a legal way to watch movies online.
Blockbuster online has a similar program that lets you rent movies from the Blockbuster website. They then mail you the DVD’s and when your done you can choose to either mail them back or exchange them at a Blockbuster store (if you can find one, I think they might be going under soon) for another movie. This is convenient but I’ve had a much more pleasant experience with Netflix so far.
We are in the middle of a revolution and soon we won’t have to leave the house to buy any media what so ever, everything will be streamed across the internet directly to our computers and televisions. Whats really amazing is this is already becoming a reality. If you have Cable or Satellite you know about on demand movies, which you can get with a click of your remote. iTunes has revolutionized music buying and put most of the record stores out of business. What I’m truly looking forward to however is when Netflix, Blockbuster and others start streaming full 1080p movies and tv shows right into your livingroom. Now that will be the day.
