The Emmy nominations were announced this morning and there were some surprises including the nominations of Sarah Silverman for Lead Actress in a Comedy for her Comedy Central show and FotC’s Jermaine Clement for Lead Actor in a comedy. But most surprising was the nod to Family Guy for Outstanding Comedy, the first animated series to be nominated since the Flintstones in 1961.

There were also a few surprises about who wasn’t nominated. For the first time since the series began, there was no nomination for Entourage’s Jeremy Piven (maybe Sushigate wasn’t such a great idea after all) and the HBO hit True Blood didn’t get any love either.

It looks like the rest of the media world is simply giddy about the nomination of Jim Parsons for his performance in The Big Bang Theory but I personally don’t get it. I’m much more excited about Jermaine Clement’s nom, especially considering season two was most likely the final season of the brilliant Flight of the Conchords (which was also nominated for best comedy series).

The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, airs Sept. 20 on CBS.
