If Michael Scott leaves The Office, so too will a large fan base. This is not good.
Zap2It is exclusively reporting that Michael Scott (Steve Carell) is leaving the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin before the end of the season and another major character will leave with him in a Jerry Maguiresque attempt to stand by him.
Apparently, a new character, played by “The Wire’s” Idris Elba, will be promoted to Jan’s old job at corporate even though Michael thinks he should get the position, especially since his office has been performing so well. Rumor has it, this new character will cause a lot of trouble for Michael and not just over the phone from the New York, he will actually move to the Scranton. Idris Elba has signed on for six episodes (so far) which means he will be in charge of the Scranton office for a while, giving Michael time to melt down and move on. It will be interesting to see who goes with him. Knowing the cube dwellers at “The Office” as well as I do, I’m predicting it will be Dwight who abandons his DM sales job to follow Michael.
Its doubtful Carell would leave the show permanently since it has been a great vehicle for his own career. This could be a situation where he leaves for a few episodes and then returns triumphant. Remember when Pam was in NYC or Dwight worked at Staples? I think we’re going to see Michael break away for a few episodes but just like Dwight and Pam, he’ll be back in “The Office” before we know it.
