First, it was announced that the only series regular on “90210” from the original series, Jennie Garth, was dropping out of the show. Now, Rob Estes has announced he is leaving too.
“This is my final season on ‘90210’ and I wish the show, cast and crew nothing but the best. I am looking forward to spending time with my kids and exploring other opportunities,” Estes, who plays the West Bev principal and Wilson Family patriarch, said in a statement.
The show says that Rob’s departure will be explained in upcoming storylines. “This is Rob’s last season on ‘90210’,” a show rep said. “He’s a talented actor and we couldn’t have asked for a better Harry Wilson. But if fans tune in, they’ll understand why Rob’s character is leaving.”
News of Estes’ exit comes just days after Jennie Garth’s announcement that she is “not really doing 90210 anymore.” She claims she’s leaving because she wants to spend more time with her daughters and is busy writing a children’s book and developing a film with her husband, “Twilight” actor Peter Facinelli. But, the real story probably has more to do with a decision the show runners made at the end of the first seasonto focus more on the kids of West Beverly than the adults.
There will be one more adult showing up for a story arc this season though. Scott Patterson, who played Luke, Lorelai’s on-again, off-again boyfriend and Stars Hollow’s favorite diner owner, on “Gilmore Girls”, will play Liam’s father when 90210 returns this spring.
