Just days after Will Forte announced he was leaving Saturday Night Live, we have learned that Jenny Slate will not be returning for the show’s 36th season either.
Slate joined the cast in 2009 and instantly became a Twitter and Facebook sensation after she dropped the F-bomb during her very first show.
Slate’s best known character on the series is probably Tina Tina Cheneuse, a customized car horn and doorbell creator/saleswoman. Dressed head-to-toe in denim and using an Eastern European accent, Tina Tina sells nontraditional doorbells and car horns via homemade infomercials. The doorbells and horns all play her saying short, personalized messages. When a computer nerd asks Tina Tina for a doorbell, she plays him one that says, “Ding dong–Router–Netflix–Whaaa.”
In addition to her SNL work, Slate recently created and voiced a popular online video, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, about a shy, shoe-loving snail.
She is also a regular on HBO’s Bored To Death and will return for the show’s second season which debuts September 26.
Slate’s departure is just one of many changes coming to SNL this season. The show will also be adding four new feature players to the cast: actor/comedian Taran Killam, Chicago-based comedians Paul Brittain and Vanessa Bayer and newcomer Jay Pharoah.
SNL returns on September 25 with former cast member, and current Parks and Recreation star, Amy Poehler hosting.
