Now that Judd Apatow is a big time movie director, its easy to forget that his roots are in TV. Apatow was behind two of the 90’s biggest cult classics, Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, and now he’s returning to television.
Apatow is one of the executive producers of an untitled HBO project written by 24-year-old filmmaker Lena Dunham. HBO has only ordered a pilot so far, meaning the show may never actually become a full-fledged series, but with Apatow behind it, its chances are pretty good.
The series will depict the “assorted humiliations and rare triumphs” of a twentysomething women. Dunham will write and direct the pilot which, as far as we know, has not been cast yet.
If the series is picked up, it will be one of several other projects HBO has in the pipeline for next year, including Enlightened, Miraculous Year and Luck.
