TNT’s caper-series, Leverage, makes its return to the cable channel on January 13, 2010 at 10PM. The show has been on hiatus since September 2009 and will be returning for its second half at th start of the new year. In its second season, the show revolves around a team of thieves who fancy themselves as a new-age gang of Robin Hoods. Leverage is #1 in its time slot and reels in 4.1 million viewers per episode to the cable network. The successful series has also been renewed for a third season once Season 2 has finished wrapping.
Timothy Hutton stars as the group’s ringleader, Nathan Ford, a former insurance fraud investor who uses his knowledge of the system to infiltrate it. Having seen his shady former employer cheat honest people and profit, he decides to turn his back on them and pull illegal jobs that will help average people who have no recourse against the system regain their money, as well as gain himself and his gang some cash.
Nathan assembles a team of fellow thieves with various skills and backgrounds including his girlfriend, British art thief/actress, Sophie Deveraux (Gina Bellman). By the end of last season, their relationship had been rocky due to Nathan’s drinking, which landed him in rehab. Rounding out the rest of the team is the ethical martial arts and weapons expert, Elliot Spencer (Christian Kane, formerly of Angel); socially awkward master safecracker and cat burglar, Parker (Beth Riesgraf); and Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), the gang’s brilliant yet geeky computer hacker who also provides much of the show’s comic relief.
Plenty of action is planned ahead for the second half of Season 2 of Leverage, including guest appearances by Jeri Ryan (the saucy former Borg, Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager) in a recurring role as grifter who helps out Nathan’s team on several jobs.
