Fellow fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta will be shocked to learn that Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, the fiancé of one of the show’s stars,Kandi Burruss, died in the hospital yesterday after a fight outside an Atlanta area strip club.

“It appears he was involved in an altercation in the parking lot [on Friday night] and he received a severe blow to the head,” Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows told reporters. Atlanta police have charged Fredrick Richardson with voluntary manslaughter.

Though some publications have reported the pair had split, Burruss’ rep did recently say the two “were engaged to be married.”

Kandi took to Twitter after the news had broken to say. “I could never n a million years imagine this happening. please pray for A.J.’s children. that’s who im the most concerned 4.” After telling fans that she was on her way to her uncle’s funeral, the 33-year-old Grammy winner continued, “im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk, i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone.”

This season, The Real Housewives of Atlanta has followed the couple as they planned their wedding and dealt with Kandi’s mother, who disapproved of their relationship. Dedicated viewers will remember that A.J. had six children which part of the reason her mother was so about their marriage.

Kandi, an award-winning singer-songwriter and former member of the ’90s R&B group Xscape, is set to release a solo record later this year on her own record label, Kandi Koated Entertainment.
