Sarah Ferguson is speaking out for the first time about the videotaped sting in which she offered to sell access to her former husband, Prince Andrew to an undercover reporter.
Ferguson says she had been drinking and was “not in my right place” when she was caught on video offering access to Prince Andrew for $724,000.
In the video, Ferguson asks the reporter, who at the time she believed was a wealthy businessman, for the money in exchange for a business meeting with the prince.
Prince Andrew, also known as the Duke of York, serves as Britain’s special representative for international trade and investment.
“I can open any door you want,” Ferguson reportedly said in the video.
Ferguson discusses the scandal openly with Oprah Winfrey on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show which airs tonight. “I’m aware of the fact that I’ve been drinking, you know, that I was not in my right place,” Ferguson told Winfrey.
The 50-year-old royal said she has yet to see the scandalous tape, saying, “I haven’t faced the devil in the face. Because I was in the gutter at that moment.”
Ferguson and Prince Andrew were divorced in 1996 but remain in contact due to their two daughters.
