Lauren Graham returns to the small screen this spring in a role she’s quite familiar with, a mom to teenagers. Graham, who is best known for her role on “Gilmore Girls”, plays Sarah, the 38 year-old single mother of Amber (Mae Whitman) and Drew (Miles Heizer) on NBC’s “Parenthood”.
Graham took over the role of Sarah from Maura Tierney, who was forced to leave the show to receive treatment for cancer. Its a shame that Tierney had to leave the show, especially under the circumstances, but this seems like a role Graham was born to play.
The series is based on the 1989 movie of the same name. Sarah is based on Dianne Wiest’s Helen Buckman from the movie, you may remember her on-screen daughter running off with a very young Keanu Reeves.
“Parenthood”, which is being produced by Ron Howard who directed the film, premieres on NBC in March.
Since filming on “Parenthood” has temporarily wrapped, Lauren is making good use of her downtime and is currently in NYC filming a new movie, “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story” with Zach Galifianakis and Emma Roberts, about a clinically depressed teenager who gets a new start after he checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward. The movie is based on the young-adult novel by Ned Vizzini.
