It’s back! Back for a fifth season, So You Think You Can Dance just puts me in a happy mood, ready to grab my dancing shoes and ready to bee line to the nearest dance studio to learn to be able to do what they do.
If you’ve never had a chance to watch an episode of this show, one thing I really love about it is that you can miss an episode, throw the channel on and still be able to know what is going on.
The show’s basic premise is very similar to American Idol– it even has the three typical judges, for the most part. The show was created by American Idol’s very own Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe, who is also one of the judges on the show. A mixture of contestants are chosen for the show, which is really one of the most interesting points in the show, as you watch the wide range of contestants. They range from unknown street dancers to winners of national championships. Each contestant must work their way through a rigorous audition process: from an individual style audition to get a call back and choreographed routines, which are often times out of their own style element. Over the course of the show, they are assigned different dance styles and partners each week to test their versatility.
Not only are the contestants competing for the grand prize, often times $250,000, but it has also been a spot in Celine Dion’s Las Vegas show, a new hybrid car, and combinations of various cash, but they also win the title of “America’s Best Dancer”.
So You Think You Can Dance will premiere Thursday, May 21 at 8PM/7PM CST on Fox.
