Last night, there was a housewife swap on Bravo as the fourth season of The Real Housewives of Orange County ended and the second season of The Real Housewives of New York began.
In the O.C., the ladies threw a big end of summer/housewives reunion party bringing all of the former cast members face to face with newbies like Gretchen and Lynne. In true housewives fashion, the event was more about the women trying to “out gift” each other than sincerely trying to bond. Vicki showed off her new Rolex pointing out that she had to buy it herself. Tamra’s husband, Simon, gave her a diamond tennis bracelet as a belated birthday gift (I guess the Louis Vuitton bag he got her on her actual birthday wasn’t enough). Gretchen got the best gift from her boyfriend Jeff who couldn’t be there because he was hospitalized with cancer but still managed to surpirse her (via her parents) with a new, red Harley Davidson motorcycle. Of course not everyone was happy for her, “I thought it’s immature and nobody should have bought into it,” said an irritated Vicki who refused to go look at the bike. At the end of the episode, Jeanna delivered a heartfelt message letting the audience know that Jeff had lost his battle with cancer just a week after filming wrapped. The real fun is going to happen on the O.C. reunion show next week. It’s guaranteed to get heated.
Immediately following the Orange County finale, the sophomore season of the New York show began. It seems status in New York has less to do with what you have and more to do with who you know. All of the women headed out to the Hamptons for a charity event Jill was hosting and the Social Life Magazine party where LuAnn refused a bottle of beer from a waitress because “the countess doesn’t drink from a bottle.” All in all it was uneventful sans the catfight between Jill and Alex’s husband, Simon, over a war of words Simon started in New York Magazine and Jill carried over to the the New York Post. Of course by the end of the episode they kissed and made up. The other big news of the night was the addition of a new housewife, Kelly, a model/author/equestrienne who seems to be entering into the fold with ease. Did you watch either episode? What did you think?
