Three Places to Watch How-To Videos Online

Nowadays, when you need to know something, you google it. But what if it’s straight information you’re looking for, but a visual how-to? Well, the internet is still the answer, but there’s a wonderful little niche of How-To sites that can learn you right on how to do just about anything!

Expert Village is the least visually attractive site on the list. They have an absolutely enormous number of videos, but this makes it a bit ungainly for browsing. I tried to search for a WordPress how-to and only came up with two videos. I found this site overall disappointing, but I suppose with if you’re interested volume, quantity can have a quality all it’s own.

5min is the Diggers favorite, with such videos as How to Make a Burning Laser, How to Hack a Vending Machine. There’s  quite a bit to learn on this site, though most of the videos could hardly be called educational. You can search the site either by video, or by Users (Studios) and they’ll give you a list of the top Users, and a main page full of categorized posts. There are 47 videos about optimizing a WordPress blog alone, so again, I think you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for. 5min raised 5 million dollars in January in Series A financing, essentially guaranteeing it will be around for a while.

Wonderhowto sports a fun interface and a very large number of videos. There are 36 categories and all of them have nearly one thousand videos, and some even top ten thousand. They’ve split up the main page by Fresh (new) Hidden Gems (overlooked) Hot (popular) and Top Grade. As a member, you’re allowed to grade the videos. While some of the content is more for entertainment than education, the massive amount of content paired with a pretty good search feature mean you’ll find what you’re looking for. A good example of this is when you put in “How to Play Poker” you end up with 343 videos, and the top 20 are lessons on how to play, or how to improve your game. When I searched for WordPress, I ended up with 89 videos, by far the greatest number of the three sites I reviewed today.

There are many other how-to sites on the internet, I simply chose the three I’d read about the most, or had personal experience with. They represent three tiers of performance, and usability. By Far, Wonderhowto is the best, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t others out there offering different video. So while this is a good place to start, the best method would be to use all three, and keep looking. Good luck!

If you’re looking for quality how to videos, you should check out MonkeySee.com. They have nearly 10,000 videos, all shot in high-definition and featuring top industry experts. Definitely worth a look…

looks like wonderhowto.com has all the videos from expert village and 5minutes.

so guess there’s really no need to go anywhere else, if they have it all.

monkeysee’s marketing team cant seem to tell a page with nofollow on it, dropping “how to videos” anchor text on a monkeysee link.

how to videos

Full of fail.

WonderHowTo is the best one by far.

There is an Awards page on the wonderhowto site for all the best videos in twelve categories, its kind of fun to watch.

Dude, doesn’t wonderhowto just cull videos from across the web. Monkeysee.com and Howcast.com both are so much better. WonderHowTo just repurposes Monkey See and Howcast content. Total downgrade on the list dude.

I think the point, is why bothering trying to figure out which how to site to go to, when Wonderhowto.com has the videos from ALL the sites. I think this is the entire point of the site, start there and you will find the videos from all the big sites and 1000 of other smaller ones. I can’t find 1/100 of the stuff if I start on Monkeysee or Howcast, so even though those sites are great content, they cant produce everything you need, so you start with WonderHowTo.
