I had originally thought that the Untied States of Tara was going to be a comedy show. After all in all of the advertisements and billboards and such you see Tara smiling right alongside her many different “alters,” but it appears that I was mistaken in that assessment. It may have worked for Me, Myself, And Irene, but Tara takes a much more serious and genuine look into the life of someone with multiple personality disorder.
The number of viewers indicates that viewers like the show that much more for that reason. Typically, ShowTime series have perpetually been chasing their HBO counterparts, but after a success like this that may no longer be the case. TV Barn recently gave us some stats as to how The United States of Tara held up in it’s first round out.
I’m not sure if I’ll continue to follow the show, as it will certainly be the type of drama-heavy entertainment that I can only take in small doses (or maybe I’m too finicky with my TV, one or the other!). With that said, it seems to be shaping up to be a great story and I’d encourage viewers to check it out and see if it’s your cup of tea for yourself.
