Surprisingly, well to me anyway, the CBS crime procedural “NCIS” (which stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is getting some of its highest ratings this season (its 6th on the air), helping CBS remain on top of the other networks- NBC, ABC, and FOX. It is also a syndication favorite, have you tuned into USA lately and seen anything other than a rerun of “NCIS” or “House”? Even Entertainment Weekly has been won over by the show which is often ignored by the media and critics.
If you are like me and have snubbed “NCIS” until now but want to know what the sudden buzz is about you can play catch up by watching the series online for free. CBS features the latest episodes in full for free on their site. The downfall is that they do not remain on the site for long after their original air date. This means if you do not watch the episode within a couple weeks, it is gone and you are directed back to CBS’ homepage. They do offer the latest episode in their Watch and Chat rooms. You can register for these chat rooms and watch popular CBS shows along with other fans. You can also invite family friends into the chats with you so you can talk amongst yourselves about the plot, characters, whatever. It is a cool concept though they don’t seem to offer many episodes of any show at this point. Perhaps if it catches on they will offer more choices.
Fan Cast also plays recent episodes of “NCIS”. They currently have the first nine episodes of Season 6 available free on their site. There is no need to register or download any programs. I was able to simply click “play” on episode 9 and voila, it began playing. It also allowed me to embed, share, rate, and enlarge the video. This is a great way to watch past episode without having to purchase them or set your Tivo.
