“Friday Night Lights” vet Zach Gilford is returning to television in a new series from the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Gilford just landed a role in producer Shonda Rhimes’ “Off the Map,” a medical drama that follows a group of hot young doctors working at an understaffed clinic in the South American jungle.

Gilford is joining the cast as the “all-American frat boy” plastic surgeon, according to the actor himself. The character is nothing like FNL’s noble quarterback Matt Saracen.

“['Map' co-creator Jenna Bans] told me she loves ‘FNL,’ but wants to distance me from that role as much as possible. [Something] that excited me,” Gilford said.

He joins the cast two weeks after Rhimes and crew dumped actor Enrique Murciano from the show. “Off The Map” begins filming in Hawaii on August 30.
